Teaching

I help to develop educators' materials and teachers' supplements for computer textbooks in McGraw-Hill's Programming the Web series. In addition, I have provided technical editing for a Microsoft applications series, for textbooks on using Microsoft Word and Excel.

 McGraw-Hill

I have written business articles and interactive scripts used in Flash-enabled monthly newsletters and Web sites for interactive agency IQtv on behalf of the end client, IBM. My articles appear in IBM's ForwardView newsletter and on IBM's Small & Medium Business Web site.

 IQtv
I contributed articles to InformIT.com on a variety of Web design and usability topics, from resources for free Web content management systems to strategies for offering multilingual content on your site.

I wrote technical specifications for building a database-drive application for the United Nations Development Programme's Growing Inclusive Markets Web site.

 Growing Inclusive Markets

As a contributing editor for Ziff Davis Media's Baseline magazine, I researched and wrote a variety of articles and quizzes aimed at helping IT executives determine how to assess the return on investment for their purchases of new technologies.

I created easy-to-understand documentation for prospects, subscribers, and users of software startup Creator Connection's new online collaborative groupware tool.

Books
I am the author of five computer books. Most recently, I co-authored Programming the Web Using XML (McGraw-Hill, 2004), a college textbook introducing XML. My other computer books include:
  • Free-Commerce: The Ultimate Guide to E-business on a Budget (Prentice-Hall, 2001)
  • Inside the Photoshop Studio (Prima Publishing, 2000)
  • The Essential Photoshop 5 Book (Prima Publishing, 1998)
  • The Essential Photoshop Book (Prima Publishing, 1996)
Print and online articles
Recently, I've been writing articles for corporate clients (e.g., for IBM's ForwardView newsletters). In the past, I've written technical articles for a number of computer trade magazines and online sites. Back in the day (1995-1996), I was a columnist for Web Week magazine ("Ask Dr. Website") for two years. None of my old Web Week articles seem to be available online any longer, though. Links to some of my articles that are still online appear below...
